Soooo today I did the last phase of arranging getting my HSBC account set up in Wales for when I move. The process seem to be stupid for what you have to do. You have to call the HSBC to make an appointment for them call you back to ask you questions, then make another appointment to go in to sign a few papers with your passport or your drivers license. I used my UK passport. I found the process easy to do but just stupid to go through.
My friend sent me all the details for calling them and emailing them.
The first time I called all I got was the answering machine and was on the phone for 4 minutes. There was a automatic message on there that told me to email "ibc.bermuda@hsbc.bm". This was a fail. I sent a message and it came back to me. So I sent the message again using "ibc@hsbc.bm" (the email that my friend gave me). The next day I got a reply from HSBC. I was shocked to get a reply so fast. She gave me her direct number to call. So I called the representative and organized a time to give her all my details. She called as we arrange and answered all her questions. We then set another date for me to come and sign all the papers, which I did today. It only took maybe 10 minutes max to get all the paper work sorted. Be sure to take you ID that you gave them over the phone, they will take a copy of that. Also there is a $200 deposit fee that they will take off your current account, so keep that in mind. It also helps to know what bank you plan to have the account open to when you make your move. I didn't know any because I was not aware that I needed to know that. The process takes about 5 business days to get the account and about 4 business days to get your card because they have to send the papers to the bank your getting the account and then process getting you a card. They send the card to your home address, but i think you can request to pick it up at the branch that your opening the account to.
Now you know what to do. Good luck
